Melissa Warren

Dr. Chapman taught me many things about compassion, caring, and interpersonal connection with patients. I was blessed to work with him in many different capacities in my time in Dubuque. Even as I carry my ministry to other parts of the state and different settings, Dr. Chapman's gentle words often spur me on to more informed and more compassionate interactions with my parishioners. My time with Dr. Chapman was most intensely shaped during my years with Hospice of Dubuque. He loved to teach me origins of words involved in medicine, and he and I would often share personal stories about how faith and spirituality were integral to the care we were providing as well as our personal lives. Mary Jo and family, Dr. Chapman always spoke of all of you with such love and pride. His eyes would twinkle, his chuckle would deepen, and his accent would grow as he regaled me with story after story about his "amazing, wonderful family". My heart is sad to think of a world without Dr. Chapman in it, but I know that he would remind me that "eventually, Melissa, there is only so much medicine and the human body can do. That's where our faith steps in and takes over." God bless you all. My prayers are with you all. Godspeed Dr. Chapman.
