Obituary for Dorothy Marie Potter (Hanniford)

Dorothy M. Potter, 95, of Dubuque, IA, passed away on Tuesday, November 1, 2016, All Saints Day, surrounded by her loving family. Private services will be held at a later date.

Dorothy was born on February 22, 1921 in a railroad depot in Hartford, IA to Charles and Francis (White) Norris. On May 20, 1942, she married Donald V. Potter in West Palm Beach, FA. During her life, Dorothy worked as a legal secretary and a switchboard operator. She was also a legacy member of the Albany American Legion Auxiliary.

Dorothy was fond of music and dancing. She enjoyed both regular and Wii bowling. Her lawn was her pride and joy – always meticulous and beautiful! She was a loving spouse, mother, and grandmother and was deeply devoted to her faith.

Survivors include her five children Peggy Hanniford, of Dubuque, Donald (Laurie) Potter II of Cook, MN, Gregg Potter of Florence, MT, Mark (Robin Steinkraus) of Polson, MT, and Cort (Lynn Bradley) Potter of St. Ignatius, MT; ten grandchildren Michael (Cheryl) Hanniford, Patrick (Jen) Hanniford, Donnie (Ty) Potter, Corrie (Cassie) Potter, Dustin (fiancé Allison Bell) Potter, Teal Potter, Luke Potter, Seth (Sara) Potter, Tarn (Morgan Duff) Potter, and Hannah Potter; and eight great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald, and siblings Helen Davis and Joe and Jack
Norris.
