Obituary for Richard R Elliott Sr

Richard R. “Dick” Elliott Sr., 82, went to his eternal home with his Savior, Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 pm Sunday at the Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 Kennedy Road. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church where visitation will also be held Monday from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Dubuque Post #6.
Dick was born December 7, 1934 in Dubuque, son of Kenneth and Lucille (Dress) Elliott. He graduated from Earlville High School in 1953 and served in the US Navy from November 1953 through October 1957.
Dick worked at John Deere Dubuque Works for 26 years, retiring in 1986. After retiring, he then worked for Super 8 Hotel and Mainstay Inn and Suites as the handyman.
His passion was volunteering in the Boy Scouts of America as an adult leader for over 50 years. During that time he was acknowledged with the Lamb Award (LCMS) and the Silver Beaver Award. He was devoted to his faith and was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. He often said that his three loves were family, faith, and Troop 48.
Dick is survived by his wife, Arlene (Hentges) Elliott of Dubuque; three children, Cindy (Steve) Derby of Dubuque, Carol (Jeff) Tracy of Platteville, WI., and Rick (Rita) Elliott of Loves Park, IL.; ten grandchildren, Katie (Nick) Simon, Cassy Pickel, Lindsey (fiancé Tyler Kaczmarek) Derby, Jacey (Bryan) Shea, Paige Powers, and Chase (Aijah), Madison, Tanner and Ian Elliott; seven great grandchildren, Kalysa Fischer-Jepsen; Zackary, Joshua, and Alyssa Simon; Fisher Bahr; and Owen and Alivia Shea.
Dick is also survived by his siblings, Phillip (Diane) Elliott of Des Moines, Jeneen (Fred) Pierce of Bristol, VA, Max (Karol) Elliott of Epworth and David (Jeanette Frederick) Elliott of Dubuque.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Kenneth and Lyle Elliott; a sister, Lois Smith and a grandson, Jeremy “Buddy” Fischer.
