Emmet N Klein

Emmet N. Klein, 83, of 3230 Asbury Road, died at 2:30 a.m. Friday, March 5, 2010, at Heritage Manor, surrounded by his loving family.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 8, at Resurrection Catholic Church, with the Rev. Steve Garner officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the Farley American Legion. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Egelhof Siegert and Casper Westview Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 2659 Kennedy Road, where there will be prayer service at 3 p.m. by the Farley American Legion Post 65 and a parish wake service at 7:30 p.m.

He was born on Feb. 9, 1927, in Rickardsville, Iowa, son of Andrew M. and Barbara M. (Ruden) Klein. He attended St. Joseph's School in Rickardsville.

He married Elaine Heiberger on Jan. 20, 1953, at St. Clement's Church, Bankston, Iowa.

Emmet was a lifelong farmer in rural Rickardsville, moving to Dubuque in 1990. He was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church.

Emmet was a Korean War veteran, attended Radio School in Eta Jima, Japan, in 1952 and was awarded the Bronze Star in Korea. He was a 50-year member of the Farley American Legion.

Survivors are his wife of 57 years, Elaine; their children, Deb (Dan) Hogan, of Holy Cross, Iowa, Donna (Chuck) Kluesner, of Peosta, Iowa, Bob Klein, of Dubuque, Joe (Lisa) Klein, of Dickeyville, Wis., Lois (Darin) Berning, of Sun Prairie, Wis., and Andy (Sharon) Klein, of Rickardsville; 14 grandchildren, Chris Kluesner, Jamie (Janet) Hogan, Terry (Melissa) Hogan, Ben Hogan, Kayla (fiance, Ben Osborn) Schmidt, Mike (Samantha) Schmidt, Tim Schmidt, Melissa, Joshua, Amanda, Jessica Klein, Clara Berning, Nicholas and Megan Klein; four great-grandchildren, Zach and Ryan Hogan and Lauren and Brandon Hogan; a son-in-law, the Rev. Steve Garner; a brother, Clarence (Dee) Klein; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Rita Klein, Loyola Morgan, Rosemary Pins, Celestine and Eleanor Sigwarth and John and Jean Heiberger; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Cathy Kluesner, in 1991, and Lori Garner, in 2001; his parents; his stepmother, Marcella Klein; two brothers, Francis and Harold Klein; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Rosie Klein, Ady (Klein) Taggart, Sylvester Pins, Eileen Heiberger and Howard Morgan.

An Emmet Klein Memorial Fund has been established.
