Obituary for Diane M Hurm (Ferring)

Diane “Didi” Hurm, 60 of Dubuque passed away peacefully surrounded by family January 1, 2017 at Unity Point Health-Finley Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Church of the Nativity where visitation will be held Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
She was born August 17, 1956 in Dubuque to Gilbert and Dorothy (Hoppmann) Ferring. She graduated from Wahlert Catholic High School.
On April 27, 1974, she married Matthew Hurm and after 43 years of marriage they have 8 children and 12 grandchildren with one on the way. Her passion was her family and she was a devoted homemaker and child care provider for many years. She also was actively involved in her children’s lives as a Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader.
Faith was very important to Didi. She was a member of Nativity Parish and had a special love and devotion to the Most Blessed Virgin Mary.
She had a love of crafting, sewing and camping with her kids. She also loved to spend time with friends over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and no one brightened the holidays like Didi. She enjoyed making everyone feel part of the family.
Surviving are her husband Matthew Hurm; children, Jessica (Larry) Kemp, Meggan Dobson, Bridget (Forrestt) Clark, Peter (Melissa) Hurm, Abigail (Eric) Degenhardt, Molly (Robert) Lee, Martin (Lindsy) Hurm, Patrick (Anna) Hurm; grandchildren Maxwell, Jack, Lily, Elliott, Noah, Dorothy, Wyatt, Ryder, Flynn, Willow, Rosalyn, and Gabriel. She is also survived by her siblings Janice (Dennis) Lawler, Steven Ferring, Mary Sue (Joe) Weis and her sister in law, Mary Jo Fleege.
Preceding her in death are her parents and brothers, Charles and Daniel Ferring.
