Obituary for David A Copeland

David A. Copeland, 70, of Dubuque died Thursday, February 16, 2017 at Ennoble Manor. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 Kennedy Road where visitation will be held Thursday from 9 to 10:45a.m. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League.
David was born June 11, 1946 in Dubuque, son of Ross and Velma “Lavon” (Hillery) Copeland. He graduated from Stockton High School in 1964 where he was class president and enjoyed playing many sports. He graduated from the University of Dubuque in 1969. He served in the US Army in Germany during the Vietnam War.
David worked at K-Mart for 41 years, retiring in 2008. He enjoyed camping, bird watching, sports, photography, and visits from his grandchildren. He is known for his kind and wonderful soul as well as being an admirable father.
He is survived by a daughter, Sarah (Garrett) Mess of Dubuque; two sons, David W. (Tiffany) Copeland of Des Moines and Shawn (Jennifer) Larson of Dubuque; 12 grandchildren, four great grandchildren; and a brother, Keith (Jean) Copeland of South Beloit, Ill.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
