Obituary for Kenneth Calonder

Kenneth E. Calonder, 84, of Durango, passed away on Saturday December 1, 2018 at his home.

Funeral services will be 11a.m., Wednesday, December 5 at Sherrill United Church of Christ, with Rev. Emily Blue officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, where Military Honors will be accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League. A visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m., Tuesday at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 JFK Road and from 9:45-10:45 a.m., Wednesday at the Church.

Kenneth was born on June 22, 1934 in Dubuque, the son of Elmer and Pearl (Dalbkermeyer) Calonder.

He married Leola Wetter on May 13, 1957 in Sherrill, Iowa.

Kenneth served our country in the United States Army from 1957- 1958.

Kenneth farmed for most of his life, milking cows until he was 78. He was an avid fisherman with his buddy, Leon. Kenneth was proud of his blue Ford Tractor and enjoyed being with his family.

He was a member of the Dubuque County Extension Council and the Farm Bureau Board. He was awarded volunteer of the year at Camp Albrecht Acres in 2018.

He is survived by his children, Sue (Roger) Beck, of Manchester, IA, Ron (Lynn) Calonder, of Rickardsville, IA, Kevin Calonder, of Durango, Steve (Trista) Calonder, of Sumner, IA; grandchildren, Shane (fiancé, Laura), Troy, and Austin Beck, Kendra Calonder, and Austin, Aidan, Nathanial, Ethan, Noah, and Hannah Calonder; brother, Keith (Shirley) Calonder, of Durango; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe Rosemeyer, of East Dubuque, IL, Bruce (Linda) Watters, of Dubuque, and Theresa Wetter, of Sherrill, IA; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Leola; son, Bob; parents; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Violet Rosemeyer, Myrtle Watters and Milton Wetter.

Memorials may be given to Camp Albrecht Acres or Hospice of Dubuque.
