Obituary for Janann L. Riley

Janann Riley, 90, of Dubuque passed away Friday January 11, 2019 at Luther Manor. Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. on Monday January 28, 2019 at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory at 2659 JFK Road. The funeral service will immediately follow at 11 a.m.
Janann “Nan” Riley was born January 8, 1929 in Dubuque, Iowa the daughter of Julius & Lorraine (Cox) Bonz. She married James P. Riley on May 8, 1948, he preceded her in death. She spent time and was raised with her family at the Dubuque Shooting Park. Nan graduated from Dubuque Senior High School and attended the University of Dubuque. Before leaving high school, Janaan was already a secretary at Jaeger’s Hardware and then at the Farley & Loetscher Co. It didn’t take Roshek’s long to hire her and they kept her for 8 years as they trained her to be a retail buyer. Nan went on to work at Zuckies and Stevens where she stayed for 34 years until her retirement. She became the vice president and helped open five women’s clothing stores. Upon retirement Nan purchased a home in Scottsdale, Arizona where she wintered. She would come back during the summers to stay with her sister Elaine. Nan also enjoyed spending vacations in the Caribbean. She was a great dancer and singing was one of her favorite hobbies. Nan loved her family especially her nieces and nephews. She also loved her pets as she considered them part of her family.
She is survived by her sister Elaine Mozena of Peosta and her brother in law John (Ann) Riley; Her nieces and nephews Rodney (Diann) Mozena, Kathy (James) Bender, Joel (Linda) Mozena, David (Tracy) Mozena, Lisa Beatty, Katie Riley and Jim Riley; Great nieces and nephews Micky (Kelly) Mudge, Tammy (Tim) Stueck, Nathan (Shalet Middleton) Mozena, Nichole (Eric) Lambert, Leah (Kent Howieson) Bender, Josh (Sarah) Mozena, Todd (Kendra) Mozena, Elise Mozena, Tara Mozena and 15 great great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Julius and Lorraine Bonz, and her brother in law Merlin Mozena.
In Lieu of flowers the family requests that any donations be directed to Hospice of Dubuque or the Alzheimer’s Association.
The family would like to thank Luther Manor and Hospice of Dubuque for their compassion and care of Janann.
