The Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Funeral Home and Crematory is now offering a unique way to say goodbye to a loved one. The funeral home recently introduced the Farewell Toast™ visitation complete with wine, beer, and catering.

 “My staff and I often hear the comments about wanting visitations to be more of a celebration than a somber event,” said Tom Siegert, owner of the funeral home.  “We took that to heart and decided to join a growing trend in the funeral profession and offer a more casual style of visitation.” 

For families choosing this option, the alcohol is served by funeral home staff and available up to one hour before the end of the visitation. “Our goal is to create an environment more conducive to telling stories and sharing memories. Wine, beer, and catering are just part of the Farewell Toast experience. For example, we also replace the traditional rows of folding chairs with pub tables and offering special touches like chocolates from Betty Jane Candies.”

The funeral home is the first and only one in Dubuque to have a liquor license. “Controlling the serving of alcohol enables us to uphold the state laws and maintain a safe environment,” Siegert added. “We certainly understand that this option isn’t for everyone and will absolutely continue to offer traditional visitation services along with cremation and memorial options. We simply wanted to provide an alternative to those families wishing to have a visitation that’s a little outside the box.”
