Doris Camel, 87, passed away peacefully Saturday, November 14, 2020.
According to her wishes, there will be no services.
Doris was born May 15, 1933 in Ozan, Arkansas, the daughter of Arthur and Lydia (Nash) Johnson. Doris was baptized at Mt. Morriah Baptist Church at an early age. Her parents preceded her in death, in addition to her husband and two sons.
Doris attended Lincoln High School in Washington, Arkansas, and finished school as Valedictorian of her class. She received a four year scholarship to Philander Smith College. Doris lived with her aunt in Washington, Arkansas until she finished high school, then came to Chicago in 1952 to live with her parents.
Doris loved her family and friends. She was an only child. Doris married Willie Camel Jr. in May of 1965. To this union, two children were born, Stanley and Willie. She was an adoring mother to her sons. For 31 years, Doris was a hard worker for Spiegel from 1964 to 1995, until they moved to Ohio.
Doris leaves to cherish her memory one granddaughter, Juvona M. (Craig Bates) Camel; her great grandchildren, Antonio Owens, Aden Abrams, David Bates, and Davaia Bates, who were all the loves of her life; one niece of Atlanta, GA; one nephew of Chattanoga, TN; one nephew Anthony Peterson of Dalton, IL; her cousin, Dora Miller of Chicago who grew up with Doris and was like a sister to her since they came to Chicago in 1952; and a host of other cousins, relatives, and friends.
Doris joined Beth Eden Baptist Church in January of 1993. She joined the Senior Usher Board and worked faithfully as long as she was able.
