Sue E. Kaesbauer, 77, of Dubuque died Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Luther Manor. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Congregational United Church of Christ. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 pm Friday at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 Kennedy Road. There will also be a visitation Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service.
Sue was born July 20, 1936 in Galena, Ill, daughter of Harold J. and Susan E. (Grove) Houy. She graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1954.
On April 9, 1955, Sue married the love of her life, Joseph Kaesbauer, in Dubuque. He preceded her in death on July 6, 2009.
Sue began her business career in high school, working as a soda jerk. After high school, she worked as an assistant at the Fisher Company, where she learned much about business from Louis Pfohl. She then worked as a bookkeeper at Disco. She was cofounder of Creative Touch Gallery, inc., and Ooh La la.
She was a member of Grandview Women's Auxillary, First Congregational United Church of Christ where she was on various committees, the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra Board of Directors, Finley Sunshine Circle volunteer and PEO chapter IK.
She enjoyed bowling, playing bridge with her friends, spending time with her family and watching all the different sporting events of her grandchildren.
Sue is survived by five children, Cathi (Craig) Olson of Dubuque, Patti (Mark) Johannsen of Peosta, Bill Kaesbauer of Davenport, Julie (Jim) Spelhaug of Bettendorf and Mike (Jane) Kaesbauer of Dubuque; 12 grandchildren, Jeff (Allison) Olson, Katie (Josh) Fernandes, Ben (Ashley), Brian (Melissa) and B.J. Johannsen, Lexi, Ryan, Ellie, and Carli Spelhaug, and Joey, Nick and Nate Kaesbauer; two great grandchildren, Merek Olson, Joseph Johannsen, two expectant great grandchildren; a sister, June Shuler of Wisc., and family members, Madrene Houy of South Carolina, Beverly (Tony) Monti of Calif., and Barb Kruse of Dubuque.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, step mother, Hazel Houy; sisters and brother in laws, Elaine (William) Kruse, Carol (Ron) Brayton and Don Shuler; and a brother, Don Houy.
A Sue Kaesbauer Memorial Scholarship Fund has been established.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ronald Schope and his staff, the nurses and staff at Luther Manor , and all of the other health care professionals who have cared for Sue, for all of their wonderful care.
