Leslie A  Kessler
Leslie A. Kessler, 84 of Dubuque, passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2014. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 17, 2014 at St. Columbkille Catholic Church. Family will greet friends 4 pm. - 8 p.m., Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home & Crematory, 2659 John F. Kennedy Rd. Burial with Military Honors will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Key West.
Les was born March 4, 1930 in Leola, South Dakota the son of Anton and Rosalia (Galster) Kessler. He graduated from Loras College in 1952, and served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Air Force during the Korean War. Les married Elizabeth "Betty Ann" White on December 27, 1952 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, she passed on May 15, 1996. Les began his business career with Federal Discount Corporation and later became a financial advisor, he opened the Dubuque office of Blunt Ellis & Loewi (now Wells Fargo Advisors) and served as branch manager, retiring in 2000. He was a member of St. Columbkille's Catholic Church. Les was very active in numerous civic organizations, most notably, Albrecht Acres, Divine Word Seminary, Sertoma Club. He was a past president of Dubuque Golf & Country Club, served in numerous capacities as a volunteer at Wahlert High School and was included in the first Hall of Honor for the school in 1992.
Les enjoyed playing golf with friends and traveling. He especially enjoyed time spent with family at the lake cottage.
Survivors include his children; David Kessler of Dubuque, Tom (Ann) Kessler of Westminster, CO., Kathy (Todd) Malcolm of Moline, IL., Barb Kessler of Moline, IL., and Jim (Margie) Kessler of Dubuque; 9 grandchildren; Kelly (Brendan), Aaron (Brittelle), Sarah (Nickolaus), Peter, Michael, Sara (Greg), Matthew, Kyle, and Shawn; 3 great-grandchildren; Justin, Caitlin, and Allison; siblings; Arnold (Marilyn) Kessler, Darlene Betz, Ardith (Jim) Judkins; In-laws; Bob Oldis (Mary Pat), Joan Furlong, Carole Hannam, Bill (Jean) White, Jim (Sue Fahey) White; daughter in-law; Kathy Kessler; former spouse, Vivian Kessler and numerous nieces and nephews.
Les was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Elizabeth "Betty Ann", great granddaughter, Megan, and in-laws, Don Betz, Rosemary Oldis, Art Furlong, Mary Etta White and Chuck Cushing.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Camp Albrecht Acres or Holy Family Catholic Schools in Leslie's memory.
