Obituary for Ruby Lindahl (Hanson)

Ruby Eleanor Lindahl, 90, of Dubuque passed away July 23, 2014 at Manor Care, Dubuque, surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Arnold Flater officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 JFK Rd. and from 10:00 a.m. 10:45 a.m. Monday at the church.

Ruby was born on a farm in Marshall County, Minnesota on July 15, 1924, the daughter of Bennie and Emma (Scramstad) Hanson. She attended school in Middle River, Minnesota and graduated from Middle River High School in 1942. She then attended business college in Grand Forks, North Dakota. She married Glen N. Lindahl on May 29, 1949 in Middle River and together they raised four children. Ruby worked at various secretarial and bookkeeping positions prior to her marriage to Glen. The family lived in Danville, Illinois and Waukegan, Illinois before moving to Dubuque in 1962. Ruby began working for the Iowa State University Extension Service In Dubuque in 1972 and remained there until 1987. She later worked for Lutheran
Social Services in Dubuque from which she retired in 1994. Ruby was devoted to her family and enjoyed nothing better than spending time with her siblings, in-laws, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Ruby celebrated her 90th birthday at a party attended by family members from as far away as Minnesota,
Alabama, and Florida. She loved to read and she and Glen also enjoyed dancing and regularly attended dances at the Dubuque County Fair Grounds. She baked the best cookies and bread in the world.

Ruby is survived by her husband Glen, her son Barry (Rhea) of Dubuque and their son, Christopher; daughters Danelle Eldeen of Marion, Iowa and her children Graeme (Chelsea) Eldeen and Nielie (Jeff) Schaeffer, Cara (Greg) Brandt of Manchester, Iowa and their daughter Courtney (Nathan) Freeze, and Norma E. Lindahl of Boston, Massachusetts; and by great-grandchildren Sydney, Seneca, Saige and Skylar Freeze and Kadie, Madison, and Lucas Schaeffer. Also surviving Ruby are two brothers, Eugene (Loreen) Hanson of Thief River Falls, Minnesota and Carlyle (Helaine) Hanson of Roseau, Minnesota and a sister Lylah (Del) Canty of Delta, Colorado, and surviving in-laws Aldyne (Richard) Salmi of Daphne, Alabama, and Luverne Lindahl of Thief River Falls, Minnesota.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, her step-mother, 4 brothers in infancy, a sister, two brothers-in-law, and a sister-in-law.

In lieu of flowers donations may be given to Hospice of Dubuque or the American Heart
Association.

The family would like to thank Dr. Mark Runde for his kindness and care for Ruby,
Hospice of Dubuque, and the nurses and staff on 3 West at Mercy Hospital and at
Manor Care for their care.
