Eleanor  Tigges (Weiland)
Eleanor M. Tigges, 99, of Bell Tower Retirement Community, formerly of St.
Mary's Apartments, passed away Sunday, July 27, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center,
Dubuque.
Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 1, 2014 at Resurrection Catholic
Church. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 - 10:15
a.m. Friday at the Church. The Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Westview Funeral
Home and Crematory, 2659 JFK Road is in charge of arrangements.
Eleanor was born on December 26, 1914 in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Frank
A. and Alice (Udelhoven) Weiland.
She married Sylvester A. Tigges in 1935 in Asbury, Iowa. He preceded her in
death in1986.
Eleanor farmed west of Dubuque her entire life. She was employed at Armstong’s
and Roshek’s.
She was a lifetime member of Resurrection Church, where she volunteered serving
funeral meals. She also volunteered her time at the BVM.
Eleanor enjoyed playing cards, crafting and gardening. She was extremely talented
at quilting, designing grottos and zipper pins.
Surviving is her daughter, Darlene (Tom) Leibold; 3 grandchildren, Bruce (Betty
“Sam”) Leibold, Denise (Jerry Killens) Ronek, and Michelle (John Simpson)
Leibold, DVM; 4 great- grandchildren, Tracy (Ryan) Ricketts, Heather Ronek,
Forrest and Quinn Simpson; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 4 sisters, Anna Heller, Regina Trimpler,
Marie Scheller and Alice Ranson; and her brother, Frank Weiland, Jr.
