Obituary for Gary Koehler

Gary  Koehler
Gary L. Koehler, 62, of Dubuque passed away peacefully to his next life’s journey on September 23, 2014 at University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. He was surrounded by family, with his loving Wife of 43 years at his side.

A visitation will be held on Sunday September 28, from 3-6pm at Egelhof, Siegert, & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Rd, Dubuque. There will be a brief visitation before the funeral service from 10-10:45am on Monday September 29th at HolyTrinity Lutheran Church, 1755 Delhi, Dubuque. Funeral service will follow at 11am.

Gary was born November 24, 1951 in Dubuque Iowa. He grew up in Dubuque as a young drummer engaging in countless adventures with his 3 brothers and married his High School sweetheart Sandra Laugesen on July 9th, 1971. As a native Dubuquer, he loved being on the river, fishing, hunting, watching “Da Bears”, and cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes. He served on the Board of the Wildwood Association of Maquoketa, and loved to spend time at the camper. His hard work ethic from Flexsteel Industries to Uhlner tool later blossomed to include an embellishment for travel and fun with family and friends. He was a Gary of all trades with a unique affinity for humor. A true role model as a son, father, husband, grandfather, brother, co-worker, and friend. His presence will be missed but never forgotten.

Gary is survived by his wife Sandra Koehler of Dubuque; Sons Adam (Bridget) Koehler of Dubuque, and their children, Mackenzie, Hudson, & Griffin Koehler, and Ben (Leah) Koehler of Dubuque, and their son, Dexter ; Brothers, Scott (Bonnie) Koehler of Colorado, Jeff (Ellen) Koehler of Georgia, Brian Koehler of Oklahoma; Mother In-law Opal (Harlie) Turner of Dubuque; Sister In-law Donna Humke of Dubuque;and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

He has joined his parents Edgar and Beverly Koehler and Father In-Law Lorraine Laugesen in Heaven.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be given to the Gary Koehler Memorial.

The family wishes to express their most sincere appreciation and gratitude to the Doctors and Nurses of the Iowa City Neurology and Critical Care Units with special Thank you to Dr. Ortega. The effort, care, and general consideration from the staff gave Gary and our family the best possible closing to this chapter of life.
