Obituary for Mary Billington (McCarron)
Mary Ellen Billington, formerly of 40 N Booth St., passed away Saturday, September 27, 2014 at Luther Manor. Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 Kennedy Road, where visitation will be Tuesday from 3 to 8 pm. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Mary Ellen was born on August 31, 1933 in Dubuque, IA the daughter of Harold and Helene (Mohan) McCarron. She was married to William R. Billington Jr. on January 8, 1955; he preceded her in death on January 2, 1981.
Mary Ellen was employed at St. Anthony’s Nursing Home and the Dubuque Chamber of Commerce as a tourist information specialist until her retirement in 2001. She was also the 1st president of the 4th street neighborhood organization.
Surviving are her children, Jon Peter (Sandi) Billington, of Dubuque, Jean (Bob) Urbain of Farley, Jo Perry, of Dubuque, Dennis (Kris) Billington of Readlyn, Iowa and Sara (Dennis) Galle of Dubuque; 23 grandchildren; 33 great- grandchildren; brother, Jon James (Joan) McCarron and a sister-in-law, Bertha (Jake) Sanders.
She was also preceded in death by her father on March 7, 1980, her mother on September 14, 1980; a son, James in infancy on June 4, 1959; and a special friend Clarence Davis on November 25, 2003.
