Renee C. O’Leary Friedman, 84 of Dubuque, passed away peacefully at home, on Wednesday, October 22, 2014, surrounded by family.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 25, 2014 at the Church of The Nativity with Msgr. James Miller officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., Friday, October 24 at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 JFK Rd. and from 9:30 a.m. - 10:15 a.m. Saturday at the church. A wake service will begin at 6:45 p.m. Friday, at the Funeral Home.

Renee was born on June 3, 1930 in Dubuque, IA the daughter of James and Rowena (Hanson) O’Leary. She graduated from Visitation Academy and worked at Dubuque Fire Marine Insurance Company. She married Larry Friedman on October 4, 1952 at St. Patrick’s Church. Her passion and true vocation in life was as a wife, mother and grandmother. Her deep faith led her to work with many causes, including the Dubuque Rescue Mission as a Board Member and volunteer, Operation Friendship, Serra Club, and Divine Word College Seminary. She was a member of Nativity Parish and belonged to the Nativity Over 60 Club and the Rosary Society. She was a long time member of the Mother of Good Counsel Mother’s Club. Renee had a great love of Dubuque history, and enjoyed working as a tour guide for the Dubuque Historical Society for many years.

Surviving is her husband of 62 years, Larry Friedman; children, Terry (Paula) Friedman, Cathy (John) Ladd, Tom (Joanne) Friedman, Jamie Friedman; grandchildren, Ann, Jeff, Carolyn Friedman, Emily (Pete) Haack, Katie(Arcadio) Nunez, Jenni, Ted and Ben Friedman, Christopher and Sarah Ladd; great- grandchildren Thomas Nunez, Joseph Haack.

She was preceded in death by her infant son, Andrew Friedman; parents; sister and brother-in-law, Kathy (Bob) Kirby.

In lieu of flowers, a Renee C. Friedman memorial fund has been established to be distributed to Renee's favorite charities.

Renee’s family would like to thank the caring team from Hospice of Dubuque, Dr. Brian Moran and many others who supported her over the years.
