Obituary for Christa S Welu (Wendt)

Christa Sylvia Welu, 86, of Dubuque died Peacefully, Thursday, October 30, 2014 at Stonehill Care Center. Funeral services will be 3 pm Sunday, November 2, 2014 at Holy Spirit Parish, Holy Ghost Church, 2921 Central Ave., where visitation will be held Sunday from 2 pm until time of service. The liturgy will be the Mass and Liturgy of the day. The Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Christa was born August 3, 1928 in Leipzig, Germany, twin daughter of Kurt and Elizabeth Wendt. She met the love of her life, Daniel E. Welu in Berlin, Germany. They were married and Dan brought her to Dubuque in 1955. Together they raised seven children.
Christa loved spending time in physical activities. She was an avid cross country skier and had a love for swimming, bike riding, walking and running. Her children found it hard to keep up with her. She also was a member of the Dubuque German Club for many years. She also found time to volunteer to work the polling places during elections. Christa also enjoyed spending time with Dan at the Welu Hollow Cabin.

Christa enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. They always knew Grama or Oma had special candy treats waiting for them when they visited.

Christa also enjoyed when her twin sister, Eva, would visit from Germany. They enjoyed several such visits, and it was a sight to see the twin sisters speak German and truly enjoy each others company.

Christa is survived by seven children, Yvonne (Joe) Goesse of Davenport, Iowa, Kurt (Bev) Welu of Omaha, Neb., Charmaine (William) Moscoso of Walcott, Iowa, Thomas (Cinda) Welu of Dubuque, Michelle (John) Leland of Dubuque, Mark (Carrie) Welu of Sagamore Hills, Ohio, Christina (John) Welu-Reynolds of Iowa City, Iowa; seven grandchildren, and her twin sister Eva Pritchard of Dresden, Germany.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel and Sister in law, Jean Wilson.
