Obituary for Robert J Blosch

Robert J. Blosch, 91, of Dubuque, passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with the Rev. Steven Rosonke officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery with full military rites accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corp League. There will be no public visitation and the family request no flowers. The Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
Robert was born August 22, 1923 in LaMotte, Iowa, son of John and Mary (Repphun) Blosch. He married Florence H. Beidler on May 8, 1943 at St. Raphael's Cathederal in Dubuque. She preceded him in death on January 21, 2011. Robert was a long time employee of Nurre Glass Co. and the Trus Joist Co, Dubuque. He also worked for Bacon & Van Buskirk Co., Zephyr Glass Co. and the John Deere Dubuque Works. Robert served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a medic. Robert loved traveling with his wife Florence, family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, reading, playing cards, visiting with friends at Bunker Hill Golf Course and investing in the financial markets. He loved playing fast pitch softball where he pitched for years. During this time he threw numerous no hitters and led his teams to many city championships. He was elected into the Dubuque Fast Pitch Hall of Fame in 1978. He was a member of St. Anthony's parish.
Surviving are 2 daughters, Barbara Pfiffner and Susan (Tony) Walker both of Asbury, and a son Thomas (Helen), of Dubuque; grandchildren, Dave (Kim) Pfiffner, Jon Pfiffner, Ann (Dave) Johnson, Matt Pfiffner, Steve (Virginia) Blosch, Tim (Jamie) Blosch, Jay Kluesner, Jesse (Amanda) Kluesner; 12 great grandchildren; 1 sister-in-law Doris Blosch and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents; 2 grandchildren, Mark and Mary Pat Blosch, 4 brothers, Harvey, Carl, Paul and Kenneth (Denny) Blosch, and 1 sister, Helen (Sally) Doerr and son-in-law Ron Pfiffner.
In memory of Robert, memorials may be given to Luther Manor or Hospice of Dubuque.
The family would like to thank Dr. John Whalen and staff, Dr. Jared Freiburger and staff, Luther Manor and their staff, and Hospice of Dubuque for their care and compassion.
