Obituary for Gary Ray Stone

Gary Ray Stone
Gary Ray Stone, 70, of Dubuque passed away in his sister's arms on Wednesday, December 17, 2014.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, December 20 at St. John's Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 3 to 7 pm Friday at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 JFK Road and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the Church.
Gary was born on July 9, 1944 the son of Leslie and Arnetha (Larson) Stone. He was the much loved big brother of Vickie.
At 15 months of age, he became ill with polio, which caused his multiple disabilities.
Gary enjoyed his Friday night dates with his sister waiting for trains to come and counting how many diesels there were. Then off to Culvers or the Town Clock Inn for supper where the staff knew him and were appreciated for their kindness. Summers would find him cheering for the Cedar Rapids Kernels in his team shirt and cap. He always had a smile and "Thank you, Honey" for people who helped him.
Gary believed heaven was on the moon and would stand in parking lots, or wherever, looking up and yelling, "Hi Mom, Hi Dad." Now we can all look up at the moon and say "Hi, Gary-we love you."
He loved music and especially Tom's "Roll Out the Barrel."
"Gary, my booger-butt brother, I was the luckiest sister in the whole world. Me love you more."
Everyone, when you see a train, John Deere tractor or the moon, remember to say "Look what I see, Gary Stone."
He is survived by his sister, Vickie Stone of Dubuque; a niece, Mollie (Eric) Clapham, of Dubuque; two nephews, Ryan Thill of Iowa City and Colin Thill, of Dubuque; an aunt, Velma (Carl) Jensen, of Coggan, IA; and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Elmer (Gertie) Larson and William (Nellie) Stone; maternal aunt, Debbie Pine and Paternal uncle, Burdette Stone.
