Obituary for Mary F. Routledge

Mary Routledge, 91, of Dubuque died Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Heritage Manor. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday, March 23, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church where visitation will be held Monday from 9 a.m. until time of service.
Mary was born December 17, 1923 in Newton, Iowa, daughter of Richard and Mary (Krocheski) Routledge. She lived in Dubuque since the age of 5, graduated from the Visitation Academy and received her BA in English from Clarke College.
She spent several years in retail work after college and then joined the staff of the Telegraph Herald where she worked for 15 years in design and advertisements. After her work at the newspaper she worked an additional 15 years at Mercy Hospital in design work for hospital publications retiring in the early 1980's.
Mary cared for her invalid widowed mother for nearly 15 years after her graduation from college. She lived alone in Dubuque the rest of her life becoming active in St. Patrick's parish for as long as she was able to do so. She was known for her keen mind, gentle personality and wonderful sense of humor all of which she kept intact right up until the days preceding her death.
Mary is survived by numerous cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, John Routledge.
