Allen D. Palmer 72, of Dubuque, passed away Sunday, April 12, 2015 at ManorCare Health Services. Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p.m. Thursday, April 16, 2015 at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 JFK Rd.. Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. until time of services Thursday at the funeral home. Allen was born on July 12, 1942 in southern Illinois, the son of David and Eileen (Drummond) Palmer. He received his B.A. degree and Masters degree from the University of Southern Illinois. Allen married Bonnie Edman, she preceded him in death in 1992. He then married Susan Mordica on August 5, 1994. Allen taught at Palos South Middle School in Palos Park, Illinois and Joliet Junior College in Joliet, Illinois before moving to Dubuque and teaching for 10 years at NICC. He was a scholarly man who was a history buff and excellent guitarist. Woodworking, restoring antique sport cars, writing plays, music and poetry were some of Allen's favorite past times. Surviving are his wife, Susan of Dubuque; his children Dan (Kathy) Palmer of Evanston, IL, Cara (George) Gibbons of Crete, IL and their children Connor, Tyler and Jacob; Kristin (Jon) Filitti of Dubuque, IA and their children Maria and Dominic; and his only brother, John Palmer. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Bonnie and his brother, Bradley. An Allen D. Palmer memorial fund has been established.
