Norman G. “Gene” Middleman, 78, of Dubuque died on Thursday, April 23, 2015, at Luther Manor. Funeral services will be 7 pm Monday at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road where visitation will be held Monday from 4 pm until time of service. Inurnment will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Dubuque Memorial Gardens where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Dubuque Post #6.
Gene was born August 17, 1936 in Dubuque, Iowa, son of Robert and Genevieve (Dempsey) Middleman. He married Ruth Westmark at St. Patrick’s Church in February of 1965. He served his country in the US Army and was a member of the American Legion.
Before retiring, he worked at John Deere for 29 years.
He was a music lover. He was a big NASCAR fan, enjoyed his Harley-Davidson motorcycle that he rode cross country and the Chicago Bears. Gene was very grateful for the kindness and support his Grandmother Kate Kern gave to his family while growing up.
Gene is survived by his wife Ruth of Dubuque, six children, Dan Middleman of Dubuque, Larry (Amy) Middleman of Dubuque, Kelly (Harry) Blewett of Dubuque, Chris Middleman of Denver, Colorado, Tom (Jennifer) Middleman of Broussard, Louisiana and William “Billy” Middleman of Dubuque; eight grandchildren, Ashley, Nicole, Jamie, Zack, Michael, Harry, Emma, and Jack; one great grandson, Damon; a brother, Kenneth Middleman of Dixon, Ill., and a sister, Shirley (Bob) Behnke of Dubuque.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Robert J. Middleman and DeLoris Becker.
