Obituary for Vincent Leytem

Vincent Leytem
Vincent E. Leytem, 57, of Dubuque passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2015.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 20 at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m., Tuesday at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 Kennedy Road.
Vincent was the 10th child in the Arnold Leytem and Elmeta (Pregler) Leytem family. He was born on September 28, 1957 with Down Syndrome. He was able to enjoy an active and rewarding life because of the many people he encountered from the Dubuque community.
Vincent loved to dance, so he went boot scooting every Wednesday, he bowled, took long walks, went to movies and would never miss a party.
He worked at the ARC workshop, Nordstrom’s and the Redemption Center.
He loved, and was loved by his families, his siblings, ARC, Cozy Corner, Sunnycrest Manor and the Adeline Group Home, where he called home for 20 years. They all helped in giving Vinny the very best life possible.
He never missed a Cub’s game and went to see them play every year. The Hawkeyes, Packers, and WWF wrestling also were a must see.
Surviving are his siblings, Betti Engler and Norma (Bill) Phillips, both of Dubuque, Peggy (Gary) Bicker of Clinton, IA., Pat (Chales) Keys of Tipton, IA., Dennis Leytem of Coralville, IA and Christine (Denny Hartke) Grogan of Dubuque; Sister-in-law, Norma Leytem, many nieces and nephews; and his family at ARC, Adeline, Cozy Corner and Sunnycrest Manor.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Arnold “Butch” and Bob Leytem; sister, Mary Lou Shappell; niece, Sandra Leytem;2 nephews, Russell Engler and Rick Engler; brother-in-law, Gene Engler; and great nephew, Draven Leytem.
