Ruth (Nemmers) Miroyiannis, 94, of Heritage Manor, formerly of 2 Julien Dubuque Dr. died Monday, June 15, 2015.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday June 18 at the Cathedral of St. Raphael. Entombment will be in the Resurrection Garden at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services, Thursday at the Cathedral. The Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 John F. Kennedy Road is in charge of the arrangements.
Ruth was born on February 10, 1921 in LaMotte, Iowa the daughter of Nicholas and Rose (Beringer) Nemmers. She married Dr. Stanley D. Miroyiannis at the Church of the Nativity on Nov. 24, 1958. He preceded her in death on June 1, 1980.
She graduated from the former Holy Rosary High School in LaMotte and Bayless Business College. She joined Metropolitan Life in their Dubuque office, and was promoted to Office Manager in the Sioux City District Office, and their Des Moines Headquarters where she retired after 44 years. She moved to Dubuque in 1985.
She served 6 years as a member of the 5904 USAR School at the Army Reserve Center at Ft. Des Moines. She was Secretary to the Commandant and was the 1st WAC Sergeant to re-enlist in the WAC Reserve, Iowa Sector.
She spent a number of years as Volunteer Coordinator at Finley Hospital. She was a Lector/ Eucharistic Minister at St. Raphael’s and was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court 1287. She was an avid sports fan, loved golf and horseback riding, and especially the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Chicago White Sox.
She is survived by her brother, Dr. Roger J. (Elizabeth) Nemmers; 2 sisters, Joan Gerken and Carol Bertsch; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; brother, Glenn (Mary) Nemmers; sister, Harriet (Dr. James) McKay; and brothers-in-law, Adrian Gerken and Robert Bertsch.
