Obituary for Sheryl K Haug (Jacobs)

Sheryl K Haug (Jacobs)
Sheryl Kay Haug, 42, died peacefully at her home in Urbana, IA, June 28, 2015.
Visitation will be at Egelhof, Siegert, Casper Funeral Home 2659 JFK Road Dubuque on Monday, July 6 from 3-8pm, and Tuesday, July 7 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 3200 Asbury Rd, Dubuque from 10 – 11:15am, prior to services at 11:30 AM.
Her parents were Bob and Joan Elaine (Jacobs) Haug, who were blessed with her life. She was born in Galena, IL, Nov. 4, 1972, and raised on the family farm in the Elizabeth/Hanover area. Her education was at schools both in Elizabeth and Hanover, before graduation from River Ridge High School in 1990. She was active in 4H and led her Brown Swiss cattle to several trophies. Her further education from Luther College, Decorah, IA concluded in 1994. She had nearly completed a Master’s Degree from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.
Sheryl’s entire work career was that of service to others. She did this waiting on Mary Kay customers, or at Waldenbooks and Target, in student guidance and development on the university level, in the VISTA program position in Omaha, NE, as Unit Leader with AmeriCorps NCCC on the campus at Vinton, IA, and lastly again in sales at Casey’s.
The supervision that she provided students influenced lives at South Dakota State University in Brookings, the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Clemson University in Clemson, SC and for a brief time at the University of Dubuque.
She traveled extensively around the United States, as well as trips to England, Norway, Europe, Mexico, and Tanzania, Africa.
Sheryl’s energy, courage, and optimism were barely diminished by her history of open heart surgeries and strokes. Her belief and ready response if asked, “How are you” - were that she - and life - was “good”. A smile would guarantee the answer. She was a good listener, motivator, guide and inspiration for others.
Her survivors include her mother, Joan of Dubuque; her brother, Daniel Haug and his wife, Sally Chen of Dubuque, her niece, Ruthanne, and nephews Jacob, Matthew and Samuel. The beloved pet, Rusty-dog was a faithful companion since his rescue from a shelter in South Carolina.
There are many aunts, uncles, and cousins who survive as well as friends too numerous to count. If you met Sheryl, her winning smile and genuine care for others would endear her to you as friend.
She was preceded in death by her father, Bob, in 2013, her grandparents, John and Antoinette Haug, and Janet R. Ransom and uncles Herald Schulz and Keith Norwood.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Sheryl K. Haug memorial fund, which will be shared partially with Luther College.
