Marco Giunta, 85, of Dubuque died Friday, July 10, 2015 peacefully at home surrounded by family. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 pm Monday at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 Kennedy Road where there will be a parish wake service at 7 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of the Resurrection where visitation will also be held Tuesday from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League.
Marco was born September 23, 1929 in Dubuque, Iowa, son of Joseph and Maria Giunta. He Graduated from Loras Academy in 1948. He served in the US Army during the Korean War.
On July 30, 1955 he married Carmela Cannavo in Termini Imerese, Sicily. They opened Marco's Italian Restaurant in 1960. He retired in 1995, turning the business over to family. Marco loved spending time with family and working in his yard. He loved eating great food, especially cooked by Carmela.
He is survived by his wife, Carmela Giunta of Dubuque; two sons, Anthony "Tony" (Debra) Giunta of Maplewood, Minn., and Frank Giunta of Dubuque; six grandchildren, Theresa (Josh) McBroom of Oakdale, Minn., Christina Giunta of Minneapolis, Minn., Marco Giunta of Bemidji, Minn., Joseph Giunta of Maplewood, Minn., Gabriella and Roger "RJ" Giunta of Waterloo; two great grandchildren, Grace and Carter; a sister, Anna Beyer of Dubuque; and brothers in law, sisters in law, many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings, Benedetta, Maria, Rose, Vincent, Joseph, and Anthony.
