Obituary for Mary M Schurb (Miller)

Mary M Schurb (Miller)

It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Miller-Schurb of St. Paul, MN, announces her passing on Sunday, July 26, 2015, at the age of 84.
Friends and relatives of Mary Miller-Schurb may call from 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Monday, August 3, 2015 at the Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 JFK Rd. A funeral mass will be held at The Church of The Nativity, 1001 Alta Vista on Tuesday, August, 4, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. James Miller officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Mary Miller-Schurb was born on December 3, 1930 in Dubuque, IA, the daughter of Erwin J. and Margaret K. (Sullivan) Miller. She enjoyed growing up in the city nestled in the great bluffs of the Tri-State area. Her like was filled with school, playing with friends and taking long train rides to visit relatives while seeing the countryside. Because Mary’s father worked for the Milwaukee Railroad, she and her family were able to visit New York City, New Orleans, and various cities in California and watched the newly released Wizard of Oz in 1939 in Omaha, Nebraska.
She graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy in 1948. Shortly thereafter, Mary continued her interesting travels when setting out on her career. She worked for an insurance company in Washington, DC, Interstate Finance in Dubuque, IA and lived and served with the Archdiocese in Fairbanks, Alaska in the early 1960s. After that, she settled in St. Paul, Minnesota, where she met and married Joseph Schurb in 1971.
Mary thoroughly enjoyed working as an Executive Assistant at various companies. Her most treasured experience was at General Mills. After retiring she worked several part time jobs due to her interests: house and pet sitting, working in the chancellor office at St. Thomas University and a local floral shop - all in Minneapolis and St. Paul.
Mary will be lovingly remembered by her family of siblings James J. "Jim" Miller, Sr. and Charles L. "Charlie" Miller both of Dubuque and her nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents, her brother Daniel Miller; and sisters-in-law Beth (Dan) Miller, Brenda (Benda) Miller and Jean (Bisanz) Miller.
All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mary's life and the loving affect she left us.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Nativity Church.
