Obituary for James A Helling

James A. Helling Sr. 80, of Dubuque., died Thursday, August 13, 2015 at Mercy Health Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony's Church with Rev. Dwayne Thoman officiating. Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Sunday, August 16, 2015 and from 9:00 a.m. - 9:45 a.m. Monday at the church.

Jim was born on October 28, 1934 in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Victor and Geraldine (Feller) Helling. He married Joyce Barrett on January 29, 1955 at St. Anthony's Church. Jim was the current President of Artistic Cleaning Services Inc. and has worked for the business over the past 66 years. He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, the Knights of Columbus Council 510, the Julien Yacht Club, Dubuque Men's Association and the Moose Lodge 355. Jim enjoyed boating on the Mississippi River and driving his Corvette.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Joyce of Dubuque; his children Debra (Terry Kelleher) Avenarius of Dubuque, James "Sam" (Laurie) Helling of Dubuque, Jane (Luke) Meyer of Machesney Park, IL, Doug (Karen) Helling and Jody (Tank) Sahm both of Dubuque; his brothers Tom (Shari) Helling and Victor "Gus" (Ann) Helling both of Dubuque; his sisters Patricia Casey and Carol (Herb) Klinkhammer both of Dubuque; his sister-in-law Peggy Helling of Dubuque; 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother-in-law John and Della Barrett; his brother Robert and his brother-in-law Tom Casey.
