Obituary for John Schreiber

John  Schreiber
John D. Schreiber, 60, of Dubuque, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. To honor John's life, funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, October 5 at the Church of the Nativity. To celebrate John's life, visitation will be held from 2 to 5 pm Sunday, at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 Kennedy Road where there will be a parish wake service at 4:30.
John was born July 8, 1955 in Dubuque, Iowa, son of Frederick and Patricia (Doherty) Schreiber. John married Rosemary "Rose" Merges on September 16, 1978, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Sherrill, Iowa.
John owned and operated Ac'cent Kitchens for 30 years, until his retirement in 2004. He enjoyed motorcycle riding, fishing and camping on the Mississippi, target shooting, woodworking, playing billiards with family and friends, and spending time with his grandkids. He was a member of Nativity Parish, Isaack Walton League, NRA, Mississippi Walleye Club, and Dubuque Landlords Association.
John is survived by his wife, Rose, two sons, Joe (Lindsey) Schreiber of Sherrill, Iowa and Steve (Christina) Schreiber of Hazel Green, Wisc., four grandchildren, Connor, Cooper, Lily, and Nora Schreiber; a sister, Mary (James Herrig) Schreiber and two brothers, Mark (Jane) Schreiber and Tom (Molly) Schreiber, all of Dubuque, Iowa; his mother-in-law, Ruth Merges of Dubuque; two brother-in-laws, Frank (Eileen) Merges of Dubuque, Iowa and Ed (Nancy) Merges of Sherrill, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Frank Merges.
A John Schreiber Memorial Fund has been established.
