Donald L. Schueller, 84, of Dubuque, and formerly of Peosta, passed away Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at Luther Manor, surrounded by his family.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, October 15 at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 Kennedy road where there will be a parish wake service at7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 16, 2015 at the Church of the Resurrection with Rev. Mark Murphy celebrating. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery, New Melleray.
Donald was born April 17, 1931 in Peru Township, Dubuque, son of Charles and Rosalia (Schueller) Schueller. He married Shirley Marshall on October 23, 1951 at Holy Ghost Church, Dubuque. This October 23, would have been Don and Shirley's 64th wedding Anniversary. Don was retired from John Deere, Dubuque Works after 32 years of service. Don was one of the best Maintenance Men at John Deere, when there was difficulty with a machine, Don was the first person to go to. He farmed for many years in Peosta, Iowa, along with working at John Deere, he was a very hard worker.
Don was a man of strong faith who attended Mass on a regular basis. In his retirement years, Don and Shirley watched many Nascar races in Daytona, Florida, where they camped with the R.V. making new friends. He was a stock car driver in his younger years, turned many wrenches, and attended many Dubuque and Farley races throughout his life. Don was a kind and generous spirit, and was a devoted family man, who enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Schueller of Dubuque; five children, Duane (Margie) Schueller of Dubuque, Doug (Chris) Schueller of Camanche, Iowa, Daryl Schueller of Walcott, Iowa, Mary Rose Schueller of Dubuque and Steven (Pamela Schaffer) Schueller of Hazel Green, Wisc.; His 14 grandchildren, Chad, Cameron, Brett Schuller, and Amber Gassman, Shawn and Kristopher Schueller, Nick and Mitch Schueller, Holly, Kassy, and Zak Harsila, Ellie and Noah Schueller., 11 great grandchildren; three step great grandchildren and a very special friend of the family, Sharon Burds.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Cory Schueller; stepmother Alvina Schueller and stepbrother, Carl Thumser.
Memorials may be given to Resurrection Church, Dubuque, Iowa.
The family would like to extend a thank you, to the personnel at Luther Manor who cared for Don the past several months. A special thank you to Nurses Lori, Paul and Alex at Luther Manor, who had given Don and his family, professional and compassionate care in his last hours. A special thanks to Mary Schmidt, and Christy Whiteman of Resurrection Church for helping mom through these trying times.
