Mary Frances (Sebben) Baumhover was born on October 4, 1945 in Mason City, IA. She was the daughter of Frank Angelo Sebben and Shirley Ann (Dickhoff) Sebben. Her family moved to Dubuque when she was young. She attended St. Joseph the Worker grade school, Wahlert High School and graduated from Clark College. On September 11th, 1965, she married Dennis L. Baumhover and celebrated 50 years of marriage in September of 2015. They have been blessed with seven children and 19 grandchildren. She absolutely adored each and every one of her wonderful grandchildren and lavished them with the same love and attention she gave to her own children. She welcomed others into her life with open arms.
Mary Frances loved life and had a passion for the arts. She was gifted in visual arts, involved in theatre during high school/college and passed her talents and love of singing/performing down to her children and grandchildren. Mary Frances was a Teacher in Kieler, WI for a brief period of time before devoting her life to her own children. She was a volunteer for their events and encouraged their love of athletics and theatre, never missing a game or performance. She was also involved in The Barn Community Theatre with her children.
In her later years, Mary Frances worked on her genealogical project, titled “Coal-Mining Italian Families in Iowa,” as she traced her Saccaro Family roots. She also patiently worked on many, many craft projects with her grandchildren as she aged.
She always had a houseful-sheltering unwanted mothers, exchange students and children from Operation Friendship. Mary Frances volunteered at church and in the community. She sang in the choir, taught CCD, volunteered at the YWCA Battered Women’s Shelter and was a member of Mother of Hope Catholic Mothers Study Club.
Those left to cherish Mary Frances’ memory include her seven children: Damian Baumhover, Dubuque, IA; Christopher (Molly) Baumhover, Peosta, IA; Angela (Brian) McSperrin, Dubuque, IA; Brennan (Brandi) Baumhover, Dubuque, IA; Eben (Kelley) Baumhover, Clive, IA; Seth Baumhover, Peosta, IA; Annah (Brian) Stith, Mundelein, IL; 19 grandchildren: Carsen, Gavin and Breeanna Baumhover; Nolan, Quinn, Emma and Garrett Baumhover; Aidan, Gwyneth and Brady McSperrin; Alyssa Baumhover; Austin, Ava, Norah and Cecelia Baumhover; Lilyan Urbain, Evelyn, Charles and Francis Stith; four brothers: Brent, Gregg, Kerry and Michael (Starla) Sebben; and many nieces and nephews.
