Richard W. Kitto, 73, of Dubuque died peacefully on Friday, February 5, 2016 at home.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 13 at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 John F. Kennedy Road. Burial will be in Hopkinton Cemetery, Hopkinton, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 10: 45 a.m., Saturday at the funeral home.

Richard was born on April 22,1942 in La Fayette County, Wisconsin on his grandparents family farm to Donald Bernard and Ada Bernice (Kettler) Kitto.

He received his degree of Bachelor of Science Civil Engineering on June 4, 1966 from Wisconsin State University.

He was employed as project manager, plant engineering at John Deere Dubuque Works, Dubuque, retiring in 1989.

On June 11, 2005 he married Virginia A. (Murray) Hardin in East Dubuque, Illinois.

Richard enjoyed boating, fishing, dancing and winter getaways to Florida, Hawaii, Mexico and The Caribbean. He was proud of his cottage he built on the Mississippi river in St. Donatus, Iowa where there were many family and friend gatherings.

He was a member of the Civil Engineering Society and the Elks Club.

Richard will be remembered for his quick wit and great sense of humor.

Surviving is his wife, Virginia Kitto, Dubuque; son, Jeffrey D. (Berenika) Kitto, Lake City, Fla.; daughter, Jennifer M. (Martin) Groom and grandsons, Caleb, Joshua, and Seth Groom, Columbia, Tenn.; step- daughter, Dr. Cynthia L. (Dr. C. William) Hipp, Charleston, S.C.; step -son, Steven G. Hardin, and step-grandchildren, Natalie, Shelby, and Derek Hardin and step great-grandson, Landyn Hardin- Bries, all of Dubuque; step-son, Scott A. (Paula) Hardin and step grandsons, Casey and Jackson Hardin, Omaha, Neb.; sister, Jody A. Bender, Racine, Wis.; brother, John R. (Marci) Kitto, San Rafael, Calif.; and step-mother, Doris S. (Lefler) Kitto, Platteville, Wis.; two nieces, Cory Decker and Tiffany Nunenkamp.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant son.

A Richard Kitto Memorial Fund has been established.

Richard’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Schultheis and his nurses, especially Stephanie, and to the staff at Hospice of Dubuque.
