John L. Fangman, 88, of Dubuque died Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Stonehill Care Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Steve Rosonke officiating. There will be no public visitation. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Dubuque Post 6.
John was born January 3, 1928 in Bloomington, Wisc., son of Arthur and Frances (Bohnenkamp) Fangman. He married Mary Boland on April 15, 1958 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Dubuque. She preceded him in death on September 28, 1982.
John served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a City of Dubuque Police officer for 31 years.
John was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.
He is survived by a son, Gene (Karen) Fangman of Dyersville; four daughters, Ann (Blaise) Vrotsos, Jane (Steve) Oneyear, Jennifer (James) Thill, and Chris (Mark) Murphy, all of Dubuque; 19 grandchildren, David Fangman, Kelly (Aaron) Otting, Mike (Natalie) Fangman, Angie Steuer (Loren), Nathan (Regina) Steuer, Taylor Gray (Micah), Nicole Vrotsos (Jeff), Allen Vrotsos, Mary Oneyear, Nicole Oneyear (Jamin) Leah Oneyear, Lisa (Steve) McGrath, Caitlyn Thill (Alex), Jacob Thill, Hunter Thill, Wyatt Thill, Kyla Fangman, Jocelyn Murphy and Shayla Murphy; nine great grandchildren, Elija, Jayda, Callista, Knox, Lucy, Collin, Aubree, Corey and Kayson; a brother, Edwin (Evelyn) Fangman of Dubuque and a sister, Lorraine Bierman of Bloomington, Wisc.; in laws, Bill and Lois Boland, Bob and Charlotte Boland, Mike and Marianne Boland, Kenny and Dolly Boland, Jack Boland, Tony and Betty Boland, Barney and Char Boland, Irene Boland, and Shirley Boland.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Michael Arthur Fangman; a great grandson, Andy Fangman; a brother, Chuck Fangman and a sister, Lou Mae Fangman and inlaws, Joe Boland, Leo and Gloria Boland, Pat and Tony Pfab, Ann and Joe Doyle, Marlene Boland, Danny and Pat Boland and Brian Boland.
