Obituary for Hazel E Koeller (Eggers)

Hazel E. Koeller, 100, of Dubuque, passed away, Friday, June 24, 2016. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 29 at First Congregational United Church of Christ. Burial will be at Linwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m., Tuesday, June 28 at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 JFK Rd. There will be no public visitation the morning of the service.
Hazel was born on February 2, 1916 in Wisconsin to Edward and Mary (Haunerbaum) Eggers. She spent her youth on the family farm. She married Leo E. Koeller in 1934. He preceded her in death on August 17, 1993.

Hazel was co-owner of the Copper Kettle and the West Dubuque Tap. Her greatest role was as a foster grandparent at Eisenhower School, where she embraced every child whole heartedly. She retired from there at age 90.

She also enjoyed being around people, cooking, NASCAR racing, and taking a turn on the slot machine.

She was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ.

Those left to cherish her memory include her six daughters, Patricia (Charles) Richardson, Velma Koeller, Karen Appenzeller, Pamela (Francis) Ries, Janet (Joe) Noll, and Lorraine (Mike) Gueder, five sons, David (Barbara), Ernest (Darlene), Mansel (Alice), Steven (Jayne) and Dennis Koeller; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; daughter in law Mary Koeller; and many sister and brothers in law.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leo; four sons, Robert, Douglas, Carson, and Duane Koeller, daughter Sandy Koeller; grandson Rick Richardson; grandson in law Dan Meyers; brothers LaVerne and Chester (Janette) Eggers, sister Delores (Clifford) Stanton; and many sisters and brothers in law.

A memorial fund has been established in Hazel’s name.
