Edward Kenneth Kupferschmidt, 69, of Dubuque died Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at UnityPoint Health, Finley Hospital.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 7, at St. Peter Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery where Military Honors will be accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps. League. Friends may call from 3-7 p.m., Tuesday at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 John F. Kennedy Road and from 9:30 -10:15 a.m., Wednesday at St. Peter Lutheran Church.

Edward was born on September 24, 1946 in Dubuque, the son of Edward L. and Leona (Cullen) Kupferschmidt. He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1964.Edward served his country from 1965-1967 in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.
On April 26, 1975 he married Lynn Wirzbach at Immanuel Congregation UCC. Edward was employed at John Deere Dubuque Works for 33 years until his retirement in 2008.

He was a member of the UAW Local 94, Tri State Vietnam Veterans Association and a life -long member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.
He enjoyed playing his lucky numbers for his lottery tickets, hoping for the big winner, cheering on the Cubs, car racing and football.

Surviving his is wife, Lynn; brother, Gary (Mary) Kupferschmidt; brother-in-law, Prosper Hammerand; nieces, Katie, Megan, Connie, Cindy, Julie, Diane; and many great- nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Karen Hammerand; and father and mother-in-law, Karl and LaVonne Wirzbach.

An Edward Kupferschmidt memorial fund has been established.
