Vera  Koehler (Ballard)
Vera N. Koehler, of Port Charlotte, Florida and formerly of Dubuque, died on Monday, October 3, 2016, at her South Port Square apartment in Port Charlotte, following a stroke several days earlier. She was 91 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the Mueller Chapel, Linwood Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 14, at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 JFK Rd., and on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until time of services. In celebration of life, Vera requested guests were bright colors to the service.

Vera was born on January 16, 1925 in Mason City, Illinois, the daughter of Lewis and Mary (Wheelock) Ballard. She took her nurses training at Englewood Hospital in Chicago and began her nursing career in Springfield, Illinois, at Memorial Hospital. On January 18, 1963, she married Fred W. Koehler and the two resided in Dubuque until moving to Port Charlotte, Florida in 1984.

She is survived by three daughters – Carolyn Haslam, Gayle Burdick (John Jensen), and Jo Ellyn Burdick. She will be remembered and missed by her children, nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, sisters-in-law, friends, and neighbors.

Vera was preceded in death by her husband, Fred on April 17, 1998.
