Erma M. DeMaio, 85, of Dubuque passed away peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2014 at home, surrounded by her loving family.

Committal service will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, Sept. 29 at the Mueller Chapel in Linwood Cemetery, with Rev. Dianne Grace officiating. Friends may call from 6-9 p.m., Sunday at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 JFK Road.

Erma was born on October 11, 1928 in Elma, IA the daughter of Fred and Rose (Striech) Bender. She married Charles F. DeMaio in 1948 in Dubuque.

Erma was a great cook and always enjoyed sharing meals and recepies with family and friends. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed embroidering, crocheting and crafting. Erma loved doing crossword puzzles, playing games, and was always ready for a friendly competition.

She was a past member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church.

Surviving is her husband, Charles; children, Pat (Jim) Kearney, Michael DeMaio, Robert (Tina) DeMaio, Rick (Barb) DeMaio, Terry (Laura) DeMaio, and Debora (Robert) Reisen; 11 grandchildren, Jay Kearney and Jodi Burchette, Dana, Codi and Jake DeMaio, Jason and Chris DeMaio, Dawn and Nick DeMaio, and RJ and Brandon Reisen; 11 great- grandchildren with another expected in January; and 1 great- great grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Bruce DeMaio; 6 brothers, Lester, Elroy, Russell, Kenny, Dean and Robert Bender; and a sister, Goldie Pregler.

In lieu of flowers, a Erma DeMaio memorial fund has been established.
