Charlotte M  Holm (Rood)
Charlotte Marie Holm died Friday, January 22, 2016 at Luther Manor.

A reception and service will be held at Luther Manor; 3131 Hillcrest Rd; Dubuque, IA (563-588-1414) on Friday, February 5. A visitation will be held at 2:30 in the family room and again following the 3:00 service in the Luther Manor Chapel. A family memorial service and burial will be in Michigan this summer. The Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 John F. Kennedy Road is assisting the family.

Charlotte was born 4/15/1931 to Edna Marie and Paul Joseph Rood in South Haven, MI.

Charlotte had 4 siblings and one half sister. Her childhood was spent between East Lansing, MI during the school year and the family farm near Covert, MI.

She attended Michigan State College where she received a bachelors and masters degree in Home Economics. It was there she met her husband William Chester Holm. They were married in 1953 and had one child, Christine Marie.

Her husband earned a PhD in Electrical Engineering and accepted a position at University of Nebraska. The family moved to Lincoln, NE in 1962. She resided in Lincoln, NE over 50 yrs until relocating to Dubuque, IA where her daughter and son-in-law reside. She has been in Dubuque nearly ten yrs.

Charlotte had strong connection to family and people and was a great letter writer. She took a sincere interest in other people and was loved by many. For many years, summers were spent in MI at the family farm. She made many friends wherever she resided. She enjoyed her yard and garden. She did volunteer work, including teaching disabled adults. In Dubuque she enjoyed visiting family and going for rides with their golden retrievers. She made several friends at Luther Manor.

She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, sister Ann Kloac and brother in law John Kloac; brother John Rood, sister-in-law, Geraldine Rood, sister-in-law Jean Allen, sister-in-law Carol Holm, and step grandson, Ricky Bowser.

She is survived by her daughter Christine Holm, son-in-law Rick Bowser, step grandchildren Tammy Bowser, William Bowser [Nadia] and step great-grandchildren Shawn and Sydney. Her half-sister Phyllis Holmes, brother Paul Rood, brother Richard Rood [Colleen], sister-in-law Connie Henley, and brother-in-law Philip Holm. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to The Luther Manor Good Samaritan Fund, 3131 Hillcrest Rd, Dubuque, IA 52001established in memory of Charlotte Holm to provide financial assistance to employees who have emergencies or special needs, the Maria House, 1561 Jackson St, Dubuque, IA 5200 or to the Humane Society, 4242 Chavenelle Rd, Dubuque, IA 52002.
