Obituary for Betty L Crane (Nebel)

Betty L. Crane, 90, of Dubuque, passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 27 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, where there will be a visitation from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Betty was born on March 7, 1925, in Earlville, IA, daughter of Fred and Gertrude (Brown) Nebel. She graduated from Earlville High School. Betty married Leonard “Jack” Crane in 1942. He preceded her in death on February 28, 2004.

She was employed as a manager at Stampfer Dinette, as food director at Loras College, and worked at the Dubuque Advertiser. Betty was also the co-owner of Cock ‘n Bull Supper Club.
Betty was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. She enjoyed traveling and playing cards.

Survivors include her daughter in law, Ellen Lau; a sister in law Mary Nebel; nieces and nephews, Jackie (Brad) Devine; Jane (John) Hubler, Steve (Julie) Nebel, Dave (Connie) Nebel, Dan (Kim) Nebel, and Tim (Joy) Nebel; many dear friends; and helpful neighbor, John Donahue.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jack; a son, Gary Crane; and brothers Leland and Richard Nebel.

Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 Kennedy Rd, Dubuque, is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, a Betty L. Crane Memorial Fund has been established.
