Obituary for David L Weiland

David L. Weiland, 68, of Dubuque, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2016 at home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 27 at Holy Spirit Parish – Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Military Honors will be accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corp League. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 26 from 4:00-7:00 p.m., at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 JFK Rd, Dubuque, where there will be a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.

David was born on October 30, 1947 in Dubuque, son of Charles and Florence (Herbst) Weiland. He graduated from Wahlert Catholic High School in 1965. He then served as a Sergeant E5 in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Korea during the Viet Nam War. On September 19, 1970, he married Mary Beth Hayes at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Dubuque.

He was employed as a sales representative and route driver in the food/bread industry. He retired from Pan
O’ Gold in January of 2009.

David enjoyed fishing and was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves. His greatest treasure was his family, especially his grandchildren.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Mary Beth; their sons Kevin Weiland and Pat (Heather) Weiland; grandchildren Aaron Lehman, Matthew, Kayley, and William Weiland, Haley and Jayson Weiland and Luke Purdy; and his brother Dale (Marcia) Weiland.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, a David L. Weiland Memorial Fund has been established.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Dubuque, especially Cyndi, Luther Manor, VA Clinic, Dr. Chad Nachtman, Dr. Dave Ringold, and Julie Ehlinger who helped David cope with his illness.
