Pete was a great friend to many, and I count myself blessed to being one of them, the past 40 years. I have a lot of memories of Pete, and I will share this one that many will not have heard before.

It was somewhat of a tradition, but I would call Pete on my birthday. I was teaching in Texas and Pete was in college at the University of Iowa (he really liked college). I called him late on my birthday and his roommate, Tony, answered. I was informed that Pete was across the street at a party (he really liked parties) and I asked Tony to get him. I waited on the phone for a good 10 – 15 minutes before Pete got on the phone. I said “Pete, do you know what today is?” He replied “Happy birthday Bones! Is this call collect?” He already knew the answer. He quickly hung up.

Pete was an inspiration to anyone that knew him. His compassion and concern for others had no boundaries. It was impossible not to feel his genuineness no matter what life dealt him, he never gave up and never complained. I think Pete unknowingly made anyone that knew him want to be a better person!
I treasure his smiles, his jokes and his love for his family and his ability to make a stranger feel at ease. Eternal rest grant unto Pete Oh Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him, may he rest in peace in your heavenly kingdom.
Love to Don, Randy, Patty, Susie and all his loved nieces and nephews💖

Susie and family so sorry for the loss of your brother. You are in my thoughts and prayers thru this sad time. I’m sorry to say, but Suzie my mom died on May 11 th also. We were very saddened to lose her. She had a birthday on March 25 th and she was 99. I hated to see her go as before this virus I saw her everyday. So we are both grieving at this time. I remember when Pete was a little boy. Bless him and your family. Love Diane Sweeney Thill
