Mary Margaret was born June 17, 1919 in LaCrosse, WI daughter of John C. and Ann Mary (Downey) Malin. She married James T. Arenz on June 22, 1942 in LaCrosse, WI. He preceded her in death on October 28, 1998.
In 1951 Mary Margaret and Jim moved to Dubuque to operate the Arenz Shoe Store until their retirement in 1987.
Mary Margaret was an active member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church from October 1951 until her death. She was a member of St. Josita’s Catholic Mother’s Study Club.
Mary Margaret’s family and faith were the cornerstones of her life. She loved all of her family members unconditionally and started each day praying for all of us, enumerating each and every name, child and in-law alike, always having room to add one more as she did this last year for little William and Michael’s new wife, Alisa.
Surviving are her children, Thomas J. (Kathleen) Arenz of Milwaukee, WI; Mary Kathryn “Miki” (Dr. Edmond) O’Neill of Dubuque and A. John (Cynthia) Arenz of rural LaMotte, IA; seven grandchildren, Carolyn (Justin) Johns, Patrick (Christine) Arenz, Kathryn O’Neill, Michael (Alisa) O’Neill , Allison Arenz, James Arenz and Anna Arenz; four great grandchildren; Wey Henry and Thomas Johns, and Katherine and William Arenz, one sister, Ann Jeanette Malin, of LaCrosse, WI, a brother-in-law, Robert (Gwen) Braun of Manitowac, WI and a sister-in-law Roslyn Kellock of California, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters-in-law, James (Betty) Malin and Gerard (Kathryn) Malin, her sister Carlie Braun, sisters-in-law and their spouses, Margaret (John) Nekola, Mary Ellen (Dr. Mahmoud) Shihata, Catherine (Charles) Specht, Alberta (Arthur) Atkinson and brother-in-law Edward Arenz.
Mary Margaret had a long and wonderful life for which she expressed gratitude daily. We were blessed that she was our mom, gramma and great gramma.
Memorials may be given to St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Stonehill, and Holy Family Catholic Schools.
