When I First Met You

Dave

It has been about twenty years since my first visit to the farm. Chad @ a young age saying ‘Dad the cows are out. With his tux pieces flying everywhere and Nancy wondering what I must be thinking. I thought only this: There is a lot of love in this house and as everyone knows, I stayed.

You welcomed me in to your family whole heartedly. Considering I asked your permission to marry Tracy the day you and Nancy walked her down the aisle.

You have always been there without question. Putting others first no matter what. Importantly when you were receiving treatment last fall in the hospital. I was in the hospital overnight at the same time and you called me that morning to see how I was doing.

Trusting me to take care of your daughter, and your granddaughter.

It was said by you in our wedding video that Tracy was going to be missed at home but you knew where she was going and that she would be ok. No one had ever put that much faith in me before.

If I can be half the Dad, even Grandpa, the bar is set pretty high.

Thank you for all you done, and being a part of my life. I am truly, truly blessed. You are an inspiration to all of us.

It may be said that cancer “Got the Best of You.” This is not a true statement. We your family and friends have received “The Best of You” each and every day of our lives.

I said to you the other night as I have said to you many times since I got hired @ John Deere. “Take a casual… we’ll get parts out.”

Now you can shut her down… We got this… It’s ok…

I love you with everything that I am.

The only thought I will take from these past days is this:

Remembering you Papa Schultz not how you left this world….

How you LIVED… and live you did….                            Cary
