Condolence: Dear Family,
Mrs. Buhr was my 6th grade teacher over 35 years ago and I loved her very much. I was a little too social for my own good, so I spent much of that year with my desk pushed right up against hers. Truth be told, I really liked it there. She had a little stone, painted turtle sitting on her desk that I would play with. When I unpacked my backpack after the last day of school that year, I found that turtle among my things, wrapped up with a note. I still have both the turtle and the note. I consider having your mother as a teacher one of life's greatest blessings.
Sincerely,
Gigi Calhoun

Condolence: Much peace & condolences to you. Your mother was a great teacher & such an interesting person. Her stories about her travels were so cool - we did a whole unit on China when I was in her 6th grade class - I loved it. RIP, Mrs. Buhr.

Condolence: To the family of Mrs. Buhr, I did not have your mother as my 6th grade teacher at Bryant School, however, I had Mr. Lammers and I was the class that had to see our teacher pass away. Mrs. Buhr, then became a teacher for two classes. Although we had a new teacher, I think we all looked to your mother as our teacher for the rest of the year. She was always so kind to all of us. I can still remember her classroom with the green divider. May your memories of your mother fill your heart during this time. Thank you for sharing her with so many other kids. Kris

Condolence: Margie,
How sad I was to see the notice of your mother's passing. She was a great lady who touched the lives of many people - young and not-so-young. I am sure you will miss her greatly. How good to have her memorial at the Dubuque Museum of Art! See you there.
P.S. I will not get there until almost the end as I have 5:30 liturgy at Cathedral. Love, Joan

Condolence: To the family of Mrs. Buhr, It is impossible to know how the people you cross paths with will affect your life. When I am asked "If you could go back to any age in your life, what age would that be"? For me the answer is never an age, it is always 6th grade. I had Mrs. Buhr during the 1986-87 school year and she made it very memorable for me. I will never forget her phrases "Crawl back into the wood work where you belong" and "Stop Gyrating"! I will remember her for having the biggest boom box anyone had ever seen and wearing Birkenstock sandals before they were "cool". She will be remembered for not seeing so well, but for having the best hearing of anyone I knew. Most of all she will be remembered for her passion and compassion, her patience and discipline, and for her willingness to teach children that weren't always ready and willing to learn. Take comfort in knowing that she will live on in the hearts and souls she has touched. God Bless You Mrs. Buhr! Eric Blair

Condolence: To the family of Mrs.Buhr your mother was a great teacher and mother I often think back on how she was able to take a group of sixth grade children and give them the attention they all needed not just as a whole but one on one to bring out the best in us I will take the tools she gave me the rest of my days.
