Richard H Drummond
Richard H. Drummond, PhD., 96, of Luther Manor, formerly of 135 Croydon Crest, died Monday, April 15, 2013 at Luther Manor. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dr. Mark Achtimeier officiating with The Rev. Dr. Howard Wallace giving the meditation. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery. The Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
Richard was born December 14, 1916 in San Francisco, California, son of John and Clara (Jacobson) Drummond. He received his B.A. and M.A. from UCLA and his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin. He received his M. Div. from the Lutheran Theological Seminary, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
He married Pearl Oppegaard on June 5, 1943 in Thorsby, Alberta, Canada.
Dr. Drummond was a pastor and theology professor both in the United States and Japan. From 1984 to 1987 he was the Florence Livergood Warren Professor of Comparative Religions at the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary, where he was also Professor Emeritus of Ecumenical Mission and History of Religions. He was an accomplished writer and was the author of many books and numerous articles in various publications.
He is survived by his wife, Pearl Drummond of Dubuque; two sons, Donald (Donna) Drummond of Emeryville, California and Lowell Drummond of Dubuque; a daughter, Angela Drummond of Dubuque; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Eleanor Meyer of Peabody, Mass.
