Bob was born May 1, 1951 in Dubuque, Iowa, son of William and Elizabeth (Kendall) Flannery. He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School and University of Wisconsin-Platteville.
He was married to Cathy Gross on April 14, 1972. Later he was united in marriage to Linda Allendorf on December 27, 1989. Through the years they had many great trips, memories & laughs together.

Bob made a big impact on so many people & organizations over the years. He worked as a police officer for the Dubuque Police Department for 38 years, retiring in 2011. He was currently working for the Dubuque County Sherriff's Department and the Dubuque Community School District. While a police officer, he served on the critical incident stress management team and spent a month working in Oklahoma City after the Bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. He was also a training coordinator; and worked with the citizens police academy & explorer post.

Bob also served on the city's health care committee and also volunteered on the Asbury Fire Department, he was an EMT and CPR instructor. He currently was serving on the Iowa State Police Association Board of Directors. This spring he was one of the inaugural inductees into Dubuque County’s Badge of Honor Hall of Fame.

His big smile and big heart is something that will be remembered by all. He enjoyed golfing, gambling and bowling; but most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Bob is survived by his wife, Linda Flannery of Dubuque; a son, Phil (Andrea) Flannery of Park View, Iowa and their children, Noah and Brody; and a daughter, Tara (Brian) Odefey of Dubuque and their children, Luke and Claire. He was also survived by his sister, Kathi Flannery of Dubuque.

Special thanks to the caregivers at both the UW Madison and Dubuque medical facilities for their kindness and professionalism and to our many family and friends who assisted us through this journey.
